whatever. WHATEVER, got it?
No genre of music speaks to me the way country does. Ronnie Milsap was black, and blind, but became one of the most celebrated country singers. I was just listening to one of his most successful songs, It was almost like a song. Indeed, the song was touching. But the real gem lay in the comments:
Today is my last day at work. My emotions are slightly conflicted right now: On one hand, I really do want a break. But on the other hand, The Bosses have been truly fantastic and I have learnt a great deal here. Somehow, by leaving and spending my remaining time in Singapore lazing around (I'm asuming here), I'm sacrificing three extra months of learning. But come to think about it, I'd be studying like crazy for the next three years. So I really should take a breather before the gates to Uni swing open.
So, the Boss and some collegues are bringing me to Malaysia for a farewell lunch! I was so excited I could barely sleep last night, which was actually highly odd because I visit Malaysia practically every two weeks. Well. Oh, a couple of minutes ago, R gave me an adorable little teddy, in a woven basket. :) She's an amazingly sweet collegue, and I'm thankful to have her as a friend.
OOH, guess what I bought yesterday? Two pairs of boots from Nine West! A red one and a deep brown one. I fell in love with the red pair the moment I put them on. Its a mid-calf boot, compared to the brown one, which is a knee-high one. Frankly, I didnt like the brown one too much, but mom insisted it looked good. So I tried it on repeatedly, and on the third successive try, I decided it was passably nice. But perhaphs my perception was blurred by the consecutive and innumerable times I stared at the boots. In any case, they are now stashed away in the closet at home, waiting patiently to fly to London with me.
I know I shouldn't be spending so much, but I still am looking out for a lovely pair of black boots haha Though, I suspect it would be easier, and cheaper, to buy them in London itself, during winter.
ohh, I'm so envious of Christabel! She says that there are something like, 10 singaporeans going to lse law. I can't bring any name at all to mind when I think about the 2009 ucl batch! NOO! I certainly hope I'm wrong, and that there are many Singaporeans, or at least asians, reading law at ucl. I'm thinking, Hong Kongers would be so exciting!Because I love dim sum, and yum cha. Right. That is so illogical haha
sadly, No.
I have no almond paste!!! :(
SIGH, almond paste seems to be the essential ingredient in many, many, uber delicious foods, like macaroons. Though I confess that even if I do have almond paste, I would probably be too intimidated to attempt baking macaroons.
what, oh what shall I bake today? I really have an irrepressible urge to make a cake..
-
A mango, completely wrapped in a bundle of newspaper
-
Half a tuber of a sweet potato root, from Thersia
-
A pack of Muruku Ikan from Desaru
I had the most enjoyable past week.
It began over the weekend:
1. Went to Mom and my favourite place to eat. *wicked smile*
2. Shopping spree at Raffles City. There were sales everywhere. I almost got a pair of jeans from Island Republic, but decided to hold that descision for a while. In the end, mom, sis, and I entered Dorothy Perkins and promptly forgot all abut the pair waiting for us at Island Republic! I left with 3 pairs of jeans, sis bought a fourth, and a black clutch. Now, I've my eyes peeled for a pair of knee-high boots for winter, wish me luck!
3. Feasted on chendol and hokkien noodles at some suburban mall in the east. The chendol there is simply delicious, its our undisputed choice when it comes to chendol.
and it continued into monday and tuesday...
4. A kinda hearing. For the first time yet, I finally saw the Boss argue as if in trial. A great experience, but the highlight of the day had to be meeting she-whose-behaviour-i-must-never-emulate. Honestly, some people are just so, nicely put, infuriating.
5. The most hectic day in Court thus far. Met the Boss at 9:30am at the Supreme Court, headed to the Subordinate Courts once that matter was done with, back to the office for a short respite, and it was out again to the Family Courts at 2:30. But I loved it, being out and about sure beats sitting in the office all day long facing the computer.
6. Tea with the Boss's friends. Food, instead of work? Hey, what more can I say?
Wednesday was the cherry on the cake.
7. "I am not convinced...". One of the best $85 I have ever spent, and one of the reassuring lines I have ever heard.
8. No work for the day!! This made me a really happy girl, oops :) Between all the temperature checks and personal particulars forms, the appointment ended too late for me to return to work. So, with a spring in my step I walked home,
9. and juiced a lemon. And baked "luscious lemon snaps", in cute shapes. I especially love the X shaped cookie, for my sis's name. Gosh, it took me forever to mould. Guess all those plasticine lessons in pre-school have since fled my artistically challeged mind!
10. Grandma made rice dumblings. I have missed so fondly, and for so long, her rice dumblings. There are certain foods which ignite a flood of nostalgia when you encounter them. Grandma's rice dumblings are one of them childhood foods of innocence and unadulterated joys. I had forgotten, how they tasted like. I had forgotten that she puts red bean paste into them. I had forgotten that her shrimp were so adequately salty. It had been eleven years, and last night I remembered it all.
For almost a whole half hour, I sat with her on the threshold and listened to her tell the story of rice dumblings. This weekend, we are going to make the dumblings together, just like old times.
Sometimes, the most cosy and warm of meals are those with just one single dish, one dish rich in love and deep in meaning.
ps: I was just looking at maps of london/UCL. It's like a whole new world there, and I can't get enough of it, I'm just so excited.
What's wrong with the picture above?
a) The Belgian Brownies look too chocolately.
b) The Belgian Brownies look downright-ly, indescribably, mouthwatering-ly gorgeous.
c) There are too many in that picture, and by too many I mean too many for one person and should thus be shared.
d) I'm starving, but only my eyes can do these nuggets of yumminess justice. Tastebuds and nose, you two are relegated to the sidelines!
My senses are torturing me.
wheeeeeee! I had an awesome birthday :)
I awoke to Uncle KM wishing me a happy bday with a large pack of bak kua. Haha I would call it an unusual but useful (read:super yummy!) present :)
Had a buffet with The Family at a dim sum place, at the beautiful Marina Barrage. The variety was not exceedingly wide, but the quality and service were commendable. My favourite items were the fried golden mushrooms, bittergourd and spare ribs soup, and the trio-flavoured pizza. Anyway, as with every meal, the company matters infinitely more than the food, so it was a great meal simply on that count! Ohh, and the restaurant gets its sushi from Hon Jin, one of my favourite jap restaurants; I have an exceptional fondness for their superb sushi. Then, we headed to the new mall in Tampines, to walk off the calories (you know how it is with buffets and rediscovering how elastic the human stomach is). Bought a dress that looks slightly like a nurse's uniform, so I have got to get a long necklace to take the attention away from the odd collar. But thats a purchase for another day. Also bought 5 boxes of lingzi pills, hope it helps!
The next day I met with the girls to celebrate! (and do dares I am too embarrassed to pen here). We had a seafood dinner of barbequed stingray, chilli crab sauce clams, oyster ommelette, and some non-seafood items like barbequed chicken wings, sambal kang kong, and char kauy teow. Oh I LOVE the balloons they tied to the table! Pity they're all shrinking at home now, losing air.. Jess, or maybe it was choki, made me pose with the balloons as if I were about to float off into the night sky. In the middle of the place! I was mortified haha
Thank you, all my friends and family, for making me a happy girl as one more candle was added to the cake!
to love, cheers
Just got back from a Status Conference at the Family Courts. On the ground floor, the level The Boss calls "the marketplace", I witnessed a spat going on between the (soon-to-be-ex) husband and wife. They were yelling, right outside the courts. The exchange went something like that:
"Why you so sensitive!"
"Your mouth so big, stop talking la!"
Even then, as now, I found it funny. I'm truly sorry. But at the same time, its also sad. The Boss says that these heated arguments happen all the time at the Family Courts. Sometimes, the parties would come to blows, in the courtroom. Talk about emotional drama. The Boss says its an emotional rollercoaster that the lawyer gets caught up in and ends up drained and unable to work properly. I'd say its exciting but nonetheless upsetting. One thing I noticed was that there were no kids there. Maybe this says something about parents in general; whatever fights and issues you have with me, leave the innocent kids out of this mess? Another thing, its really really rare to see a happy (even vaugely) face in the courts, especially the Family Court.
Have a statement of claim to prepare now, yet another sad case.
On a happier note, its an hour and a half to lunch :)

on yet again
